Step-by-step timeline

Florida licensing timeline

Follow the numbered sequence and keep the course, application, and fingerprint work moving in parallel where Florida permits it.

  1. 1

    Confirm you qualify

Be at least 18, hold a high school diploma or equivalent, and have a U.S. Social Security number. Limited education exemptions apply to qualifying Florida attorneys and four-year real estate degree holders.

  2. 2

    Apply with DBPR

Submit the Sales Associate Initial Application (RE 1). DBPR says the course is not required when you file, so you can start the application while studying.

  3. 3

    Submit electronic fingerprints

Use an FDLE-registered Livescan provider immediately after applying. DBPR says fingerprint results can take up to five days to reach the department.

  4. 4

    Complete the approved 63-hour course

Finish the Florida sales associate pre-license course and keep the completion certificate. DBPR says the course completion is valid for two years.

  5. 5

Schedule and pass the state exam

After DBPR authorizes you, schedule the Pearson VUE salesperson exam, bring the required documents, and earn the passing score.

  6. 6

    Activate with a broker

Passing creates a license number, but the license is not active until you affiliate with a qualifying broker and complete the activation process.

If your search was "how to become a realtor in Florida" or "how to get a real estate license in Florida," this is the practical sequence to follow.

Costs to plan for before you enroll

Budget for course tuition, the $62.75 DBPR application, electronic fingerprints, and the $36.75 Pearson VUE exam fee. The dated table on this page separates mandatory licensing charges from optional career expenses.

What happens after you pass

After the exam, Florida requires you to affiliate with a broker to activate the license. Many students line up broker interviews while studying.

What Casa’s licensing data shows

Casa Academy analyzed 452,154 aggregate DBPR licensing records. The data hub identified 64,840 new licensees in the 2025 cohort and found 43% of that cohort inactive at the time of analysis. That is why this guide includes broker activation and post-license follow-through—not only the exam.
