Nevada salesperson candidates take a General (national) section and a Nevada State section during one Pearson VUE appointment. The General portion includes 80 scored multiple-choice questions with 150 minutes allowed plus five to ten unscored pretest items. The Nevada State portion includes 40 scored multiple-choice questions with 90 minutes allowed plus five to ten unscored pretest items. You need at least 75% on the General portion (60 of 80 correct) and at least 75% on the State portion (30 of 40 correct) to pass. Each portion is scored independently, so a strong General result cannot offset a failing Nevada-law score. A built-in on-screen calculator is available for the salesperson exam; personal calculators are not permitted. Results display at the test center when you finish. You must complete 120 hours of NRED-approved pre-licensing education (45 hours Principles plus 45 hours Law with at least 18 hours of Nevada law for applicants beginning October 1, 2021), pay the examination fee through the NRED portal, complete fingerprint-based background screening, pass both Pearson VUE exam portions with at least 75% on each, and submit Form 549 with the $125 application fee within 12 months of passing. Difficulty depends on your preparation, but the scope is demanding. The exam covers 80 scored General items and 40 scored Nevada State items across 240 minutes in one appointment, and each portion has its own 75% passing threshold. A practical study plan gives extra time to agency and duties owed, license practice, disclosures, and contracts because those four areas carry more than 85% of the weight on the 40-item state portion.
Nevada uses independent 75% cutoffs on each portion. On the 80-item General section you may miss up to 20 questions (60 correct to pass). On the 40-item State section you may miss up to 10 questions (30 correct to pass). Failing either portion fails the attempt even if you exceed 75% on the other section. Pretest items may appear but do not count toward your score.
Candidates who pass one portion but fail the other may retake only the failed portion within twelve months of the first attempt. After twelve months without passing both portions, you must retake the entire examination and pay a new fee through NRED. Each retake costs the same as the initial examination. Pearson VUE tests national real estate principles (property characteristics, ownership, valuation, contracts, agency, practice, disclosures, financing, and math) plus Nevada state law (NRED duties and enforcement, licensing requirements, agency relationships, license practice and advertising, required disclosures, contracts and earnest money, and special topics including timeshares). NRED charges $100 for the salesperson combination exam when both portions are scheduled the same day, or $100 per portion when taken separately.
