Nebraska salesperson candidates take a national section and a Nebraska state section during one Pearson VUE appointment. The national portion includes 80 scored multiple-choice questions with 150 minutes allowed plus five to ten unscored pretest items. The Nebraska state portion includes 50 scored multiple-choice questions with 90 minutes allowed plus five to ten unscored pretest items. A practical study plan gives extra time to statutory conduct rules, the 72-hour deposit rule, trust account handling, advertising and team rules, and agency disclosures because those topics carry the heaviest weight on the 50-item state portion.
Nebraska uses independent 75% cutoffs on each portion. On the 80-item national section you may miss up to 20 questions (60 correct to pass). On the 50-item state section you may miss up to 12 questions (38 correct to pass). Failing either portion fails the attempt even if you exceed 75% on the other section. Pretest items may appear but do not count toward your score.
Salesperson candidates who pass one portion but fail the other may retake only the failed portion for up to three subsequent attempts or six months, whichever comes first, while their license application remains valid. Each retake requires a $150 examination fee and a completed retake application submitted to NREC before Pearson VUE reauthorizes testing. If you do not pass both portions within that window, you must retake the full exam. Broker candidates must retake the entire exam after any failure.
