Kansas Real Estate Practice Exam

The general (national) portion includes 80 scored multiple-choice items. The Kansas state portion includes 30 scored items for salesperson candidates. Pearson VUE may also include unscored pretest questions on each portion that do not affect your result. You receive 2.5 hours for the general exam and 1.5 hours for the Kansas state exam when taken in the same sitting. Pearson VUE reports scaled scores from 0 to 100 on each section, with a passing scaled score of 70 required on both the general and Kansas state portions. If you pass one section and fail the other, you may retake only the failed portion. Exam scores remain valid for six months, and you must submit your license application within six months of the earliest pass date.

Pearson VUE publishes separate general and Kansas state content outlines in publications 091700 and 091705. Use both outlines when building a study plan because you must pass each section independently.

• General portion: real estate principles, practice, finance, contracts, valuation, fair housing, and general brokerage concepts weighted in the national outline.
• KREC commission powers, investigations, licensing and renewal requirements, advertising standards, and recordkeeping rules.
• Brokerage Relationships in Real Estate Transactions Act (BRRETA): agency disclosure, transaction broker relationships, and required contract language.
• Trust fund handling, supervision of affiliated licensees, and prohibited acts under Kansas license law.
• Kansas Real Estate Brokers' and Salespersons' License Act topics aligned with the 30-item state salesperson outline.

KREC licenses salespersons after education, examination, fingerprinting, and application review. Confirm current forms and fees on the Commission website before you apply because rules and fee tables can change.

• Be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent before starting pre-license requirements.
• Complete 60 hours of KREC-approved pre-license education: 30 hours of Principles before the exam and a 30-hour Kansas Practice Course before KREC receives your license application.
• Submit a salesperson pre-license application through KREC, complete fingerprinting, and receive Authorization to Test before scheduling with Pearson VUE.
• Pass the Pearson VUE salesperson exam with a scaled score of at least 70 on both the general and Kansas state sections.
• Pay KREC licensing fees totaling $210 ($15 application, $70 background check, and $125 license fee) plus the Pearson VUE exam fee ($70 when both portions are scheduled together).
• Submit your license application within six months of your earliest exam pass date, affiliate with a supervising broker, and complete all pre-license steps before background and course validity periods expire.
